How to solve it

Bring both measurements into a single unit before applying the scale, and convert back only at the end.

Worked example

At 1 to 25000, 6 cm becomes 150000 cm, which is 1500 m or 1.5 km.

Common mistake

Changing units halfway through. One conversion at the start and one at the end keeps it clean.
