How to solve it
The exponent counts how many copies of the base are multiplied together.
Worked example
2 to the power 5 is 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 32.
Common mistake
Treating the exponent as an ordinary factor. 2 to the power 5 is 32, not 10.
