Example problems

A few of the problems this exercise asks. The printable worksheet holds ten fresh ones.

  1. a = 19 cm b = 20 cm

  3. a = 3 cm b = 5 cm
  4. a = 4 cm b = 10 cm

Try it yourself first — open a section below only if you get stuck.

How to solve it

Add the length and the width, then double the result, since each appears twice.

Worked example

A rectangle 8 by 3 has a perimeter of (8 + 3) x 2 = 22.

Common mistake

Forgetting to double. Adding the two sides once gives only half the way round.
