How to solve it

Split the word at the hyphen. The first part gives the tens, the second gives the ones, and you add the two together.

Worked example

Twenty-five splits into twenty (20) and five (5). Adding them gives 20 + 5 = 25.

Common mistake

Writing the two parts side by side instead of adding them, which turns twenty-five into 205. The tens digit and the ones digit share a single number.
