Faces, Edges, Vertices

About this exercise

Counting the flat surfaces of a solid.

Example problems

A few of the problems this exercise asks. The printable worksheet holds ten fresh ones.

  1. How many faces does a Triangular Pyramid have?
  2. How many faces does a Cone have?
  3. How many faces does a Sphere have?
  4. How many faces does a Rectangular Prism have?

Try it yourself first — open a section below only if you get stuck.

How to solve it

Work round systematically: top, bottom, then the sides. A cube has 6 and a triangular prism has 5.

Worked example

A square-based pyramid has one square and four triangles, so five faces.

Common mistake

Forgetting the base. It is the face you cannot see in most drawings.
