Recall the times-table fact if you know it. If not, break one factor apart: multiply by the tens, multiply by the ones, then add the two results.
For 13 x 6, split 13 into 10 and 3: 10 x 6 = 60 and 3 x 6 = 18, so the answer is 78.
Adding instead of multiplying under time pressure. Check the size of your answer — a product should be much larger than either factor.
