About this exercise

Long division that continues past the decimal point.

How to solve it

Divide as usual, and when the whole part runs out, place a decimal point in the answer and bring zeros down.

Worked example

7 : 2 gives 3 with 1 left over, and bringing a zero down makes 10 : 2 = 5, so the answer is 3.5.

Common mistake

Misplacing the decimal point in the answer. It goes directly above the point in the number being divided.
