Finding how long a real distance becomes when drawn to scale.

How to solve it

Divide the real distance by the scale factor, after converting both to the same unit.

Worked example

At 1 to 50000, a real 3 km is 300000 cm : 50000 = 6 cm on the map.

Common mistake

Multiplying instead of dividing. Going from real to map always makes the number smaller.
