How to solve it

The places run tenths, hundredths, thousandths, each ten times smaller than the one before.

Worked example

In 3.472 the digit 7 stands for 7 hundredths, that is 0.07.

Common mistake

Reading the places as tens and hundreds. After the point every place is a fraction of one.
